If you’ve heard the buzz about the Tox Bar lately, you’re not alone. It’s quickly become one of the most talked-about experiences at ProMD Health. But behind every great treatment is a great provider, and we wanted you to get to know the physician who makes the Tox Bar what it is: Dr. Christina Anyikwa, M.D.
We sat down with Dr. Anyikwa to talk about her path into aesthetic medicine, what makes the Tox Bar different, and why she loves what she does. Here’s what she had to say.
What drew you to specialize in neurotoxin and aesthetic medicine?
“I’ve always had a passion for helping patients look and feel their best. After working as a hospitalist and caring for patients with complex medical needs, I was drawn to aesthetic medicine because it gave me the opportunity to combine my medical expertise with my artistic eye. I love creating thoughtful, personalized treatment plans that help patients feel more confident in their own skin while still looking like themselves.”
What exactly is the Tox Bar? How is it different from a typical medspa?
“The Tox Bar is a boutique aesthetics and skincare lounge designed to make treatments feel approachable, comfortable, and even fun. It’s more than a place to stop in for Botox. We take the time to talk about your goals, assess your features, and create a personalized treatment plan that makes sense for you. It’s physician-led aesthetic care in a warm, relaxed environment.”
That personal, physician-led approach is really the heart of the Tox Bar experience. Every visit starts with a conversation, not a checklist.

What do you want patients to know about your background or training before they book with you?
“I’m originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Spelman College before attending Ross University School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at the Medical College of Georgia, where I served as Chief Resident and helped lead a team of residents while coordinating patient care.
After residency, I worked as a hospitalist physician in Washington, DC, for several years, caring for patients with a wide range of complex medical needs. That experience continues to shape how I practice today. My approach to aesthetics is grounded in medical knowledge, patient safety, compassionate care, and an understanding that every treatment plan should be personalized.”
Who is the Tox Bar designed for? Is it for first-timers, regulars, or both?
“Both! We love welcoming first-time patients and making the process feel comfortable and easy to understand. We also work with experienced patients who already know and love their treatments but want a provider who will continue assessing their needs over time. Whether it’s your first appointment or part of your regular routine, your treatment should always feel personal.”
What are the three most popular treatments at the Tox Bar?
“Our three most popular treatments are toxin treatments, facial balancing, and Hydrafacials. Toxin treatments can help soften expression lines, facial balancing creates more harmony among the features, and Hydrafacials leave the skin looking fresh and healthy. They also complement one another beautifully when we’re creating a more comprehensive treatment plan.”

What do you find most rewarding about working in the Tox Bar specifically?
“For me, it’s the relationships we build with our patients. The Tox Bar feels welcoming and personal, which allows patients to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their concerns, and learning what will genuinely work for them. I love seeing someone look in the mirror and feel more confident, especially when the result still feels natural and true to who they are.”
