How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella®’s active ingredient is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in your body. It is what your body uses to absorb dietary fat. Kybella® is injected into the submental fat and destroys the fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they no longer can store fat beneath your chin. These dead cells are eventually absorbed into your body, and they are removed through your body’s natural fat removal process.
Kybella can produce dramatic results. Most patients see less fullness beneath their skin and an improvement in their chin’s profile.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
We will work with you to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs based on your chin’s profile. Each treatment will consist of multiple small injections in the submental area. Some clients need upward of six treatments, while others see visible results with as little as two or four Kybella treatments. Your treatments will be spaced approximately one month apart.
Is Kybella Safe?
Yes. Kybella® has been thoroughly reviewed and tested by the FDA. The process has been used successfully in the United States for many years. As with any procedure, there is minor risk of side effects. These include:
- Bruising
- Numbness
- Swelling
- Pain
