Where Are the Best Places To Use Botox?

Are you struggling with “dynamic wrinkles”, which are the wrinkles and lines caused by repeated facial movements? They can be incredibly frustrating, especially because they can affect anyone regardless of age. But Botox targets these wrinkles head-on, offering patients soft, youthful-looking skin that doesn’t crease as they move their face. We offer this brilliant injectable treatment here at ProMD Health in Baltimore, MD, so if you’re interested in learning more about it, read on.

Where Are the Best Places To Use Botox?

Dynamic wrinkles occur on the face in all sorts of places as a result of emoting and using the same muscles over and over again. Some of the most frequently treated areas include smile lines, horizontal forehead lines, “bunny ears” that appear at the top of the nose, crow’s feet, and the vertical lines between the eyebrows. If you’re unhappy with the lines and folds that become more pronounced when you move your face, this treatment may be the perfect solution!

How Does This Treatment Work?

Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it doesn’t actually target the skin but the nerves underneath it. Its key ingredient is called Botulinum toxin, which is sent into the treatment areas via a very fine needle. Once it reaches the nerves, it stops them from sending signals to the surrounding muscles. Now the muscles won’t be able to contract as you move your face, meaning the skin on top of them stays smooth as you talk, frown, and smile.

What Are the Benefits of This Treatment?

Have Control Over Your Appearance

When many people spot grey hairs, they dye them away. If we notice we have a blemish, we cover it up with makeup. Why not do the same thing with unwanted wrinkles and lines? It can be upsetting to become less familiar with the person looking back at you as you age, which is why so many patients love that this treatment affords them the control to feel like themselves again. It’ ‘s a wonderful way to age with dignity.

Freedom To Move How You Like

Many people who suffer from dynamic wrinkles try to limit how much they move their face since emoting can accentuate these lines and even make them more severe over time. But do you really want to spend all day worrying about how much you’re laughing or frowning? That takes a lot of energy and can stop you from enjoying things and being present. With Botox, you can know your skin looks great and wrinkles aren’t forming as you emote.

A Safer Solution

This treatment has had FDA approval since 1989, plus over 4 million Americans used it in the last year. For this reason, it’s widely considered an incredibly safe treatment. Unlike cosmetic surgery, you won’t be under anesthetic, which many people worry their bodies might react poorly towards. Avoiding “going under the knife” also means you avoid any risk of infection. Because it’s a neuromodulator, this treatment is even used in the medical world, where it can correct a lazy eye, stop excessive underarm sweating, and even reduce the pain of migraines.

How Long Do the Results Last?

Patients love that these gorgeous results last for between four and six months. After this time, the product starts to wear off and leave the body, and wrinkles and lines begin to reappear. Luckily, this treatment can be performed over and over. Many of our patients simply book a follow-up session to achieve the same results again. We can either follow along with your existing treatment plan, or design a new one to reflect any changes you might want to make!

Do the Results Look Natural?

Unlike surgical options like facelifts, this treatment softens out the skin whilst maintaining your face’s shape and your gorgeous looks. Botulinum toxin only targets the specific area it’s been injected into, meaning the surrounding muscles will still move as normal and you avoid that “frozen” look that some people worry about. The effects of treatment are incredibly natural-looking, but still striking appearance. You’ll look younger and more rested, but no one will have to know you underwent treatment unless you tell them!

What Will My Experience Be Like?

Your Consultation

The first step will be to come in for a chat with a member of our expert staff. You can tell us all about your cosmetic goals and concerns, so we can make sure this treatment will be the right course of action to correct them. We’ll also go over your medical history, including medications you may be taking, to make sure you’re fit for treatment. If everything looks good, we’ll draw up a treatment plan to follow along with on the day. This will include details such as how many injections you’ll need and how many units of product we’ll use.

Alternative Treatments

If we determine, during your consultation, that your skin concerns aren’t caused by overactive facial muscles, then we may suggest bypassing Botox since it won’t effectively treat them. Instead, we can suggest one of the other brilliant treatments we offer here at ProMD Health. If you’re struggling with loose, sagging skin, we may recommend dermal fillers, which boost the face with brand new volume. Or perhaps you’re preoccupied with scarring and blemishes, in which case microneedling may be your best solution. Whatever your concern, we have the resources to help you.

Things To Avoid

Ahead of your treatment, we’ll ask you to prepare your skin by following a few important steps. You must stay out of harsh sunlight so your skin doesn’t get burnt ahead of your injections. We’ll also ask that, if you regularly receive other cosmetic treatments, you stop them in the days before treatment. Blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and fish oil tablets should also be avoided to reduce the chance of bruising on the treatment areas.

Your Appointment

We perform this treatment in-house in our lovely Baltimore office. You’ll be asked to come in with a clean, makeup-free face. We’ll first apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment areas so that you have a comfortable and virtually painless experience. We’ll then very carefully make the injections, which many patients can’t even feel thanks to the cream and the very fine needle used. Depending on how much we’re treating, the entire process will take between five and fifteen minutes, then you’ll be all done.

Is There a Long Recovery Period?

Incredibly, there’s no downtime associated with this treatment. Patients can drive themselves to and from their appointment, and immediately afterward are encouraged to head back to work or carry on with running errands. So you won’t have to worry about taking a week out of your schedule for healing! Some activities and products should be avoided in the days following treatment so that your skin has the best chance to heal. These will include exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight, partaking in rigorous exercise, or applying things like retinol.

How Long Will It Take To See Results?

For some people, it can take as little as three days for them to notice a reduction in lines on the face, but it may take a little longer for you. It will all depend on how quickly your body works to absorb and process the treatment. Generally, optimal results are achieved at around two weeks after treatment, when the product has settled and properly blocked communication between the nerves and muscles. From now on, those muscles will stay relaxed, and the skin on top will stay radiant and soft!

Who Is a Good Candidate for Treatment?

If you’re over the age of 18 and struggling with dynamic wrinkles that have you feeling insecure and less like yourself, we encourage you to come in for a consultation. While many of our patients are in their 40s and 50s, we know that these wrinkles can affect anyone at any age, so why wait? The same can be said for gender and skin tone. Unfortunately, there are some medical conditions and medications that will render a patient ineligible for treatment. Candidates who are pregnant or breastfeeding will also be asked to come back at a later date.

Get Ready for Stunning, Younger-Looking Skin

If you’re fed up with the line and wrinkles that deepen when you move your face, then why not do something about them? Botox can get you the youthful glow you’ve been missing, while still enhancing all your natural beauty. And when it only takes a few minutes to achieve lasting results, there’s a lot to love! To start your cosmetic journey, call us today at ProMD Health here in Baltimore, MD.
