Filler injections are often called plumping treatments because they add volume to certain areas of the face. Mature adults often experience lines, wrinkles and folds on various parts of the face. This can make a person look older than they really are. The culprits are gravity, loss of moisture and decreased moisture retention beneath the skin, as well as environmental factors. Restylane® is one of the most popular filler treatments because it contains hyaluronic acid. This acid draws in and holds moisture, effectively plumping and lifting small regions of the facial skin. You can indeed enhance your appearance merely by having the areas of concern treated with Restylane®.
What Restylane® Treats
Small wrinkles that are non-set tend to occur around the eyes and eyelids, near the mouth and around the nose. The skin often looks brittle and discolored when these wrinkles appear. The subdermal tissue is not as spongy as it once was, and the loss of moisture combined with decreased collagen production results in skin that creases easily.
Restylane® is a family of injectable fillers, each of which is specially formulated to address certain skin problems. Restylane® can make the skin look more supple because of the added volume it creates beneath the skin layers. The skin becomes more taut and smooth immediately after treatment with Restylane®.
Consultation and Treatment
We will first schedule a consultation with you to determine whether Restylane® is the proper injectable filler to use. During the actual treatment, the filler of choice is skillfully injected into the preselected area. The gel settles down into the areas just beneath the skin. The hyaluronic acid draws in water, which lifts and plumps the area slightly.
After Treatment
There is no post-treatment regimen that needs be followed after we perform this type of injectable filler treatment. The injection sites may look a bit red for a day or so, but the area soon returns to its normal shade. The full effect of the volume addition takes less than a week. The body eventually absorbs the acid and gel, but this takes some time. The treatments can be safely repeated at our office for ongoing results.
Advantages of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
With hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Restylane®, no surgery is involved, no chemical peel is performed and no abrasive resurfacing is required. The injectable filler does its work naturally because hyaluronic acid is a substance also produced in small amounts by the body. Therefore, the chance of a negative reaction is practically zero.
