Achieve More Facial Definition with a Fat Transfer

Are you unhappy with the appearance of your face because of a lack of facial definition? If so, a fat transfer may be right for you. Many patients have the procedure done because it is a less radical solution than a facelift with less risk associated with it.

What is a Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer, sometimes called “fat grafting”, is the procedure of removing fat from one area of the body where it is unwanted to another area of the body. When we perform a fat transfer, our goal is to enhance fullness in your facial profile by transferring fat to certain key areas. Fat transfers can also be used to plump the lips.

When we transfer fat from one part of your body to your face, we can help lift your basic facial structure and enhance the appearance of your skin. Fat transfer patients may also want to target the following areas:

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Sunken cheeks
• Crow’s feet
• A tired or haggard appearance

As we grow older, our skin begins thinning out, leaving the face looking tired and saggy. This can occur to all body types: small, medium and large frames. A fat transfer procedure to your face can restore fat under your skin and fill out your face so that it appears more youthful. Besides smoothing away fine lines and facial wrinkles, purified fat can increase blood circulation within skin tissue because adipose stem cells are included with the injections.

The Procedure

Fat is first harvested from the preselected area. Next, the fat is processed inside a centrifuge for injection into the face. The recipient site is the term used for the area where the fat is re-injected. It may surprise you to learn that fat transfer procedures have been performed for over a century, although the technique has advanced greatly over the past two decades.

The Results

Patients often wonder if fat transfer injections will last. Properly performed, most fat cells will survive permanently, or at least for quite a long time. One of the best things about this procedure is the fact that the results are so natural-looking, since the patient’s own fat is being used.
