Facial creases are the result of aging skin, primarily due to a loss of subcutaneous tissue support and a decrease in the amount of retained moisture. Acid-based dermal fillers can significantly improve your overall appearance and make those folds and creases all but disappear. Deeper lines and moderate wrinkles can be treated with Juvederm Vollure®, a specially-formulated, acid-based filler that draws in and holds moisture in place. Think of the procedure as a type of sculpting, in this case where added volume performs the task.
Ideal Candidates for Juvederm Vollure®
This product is one of many under the Juvederm® name. It’s formulated using several different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid particles. This polysaccharide is produced naturally by the body, but we don’t have much of it in our dermal layers or subdermal tissues. The acid attracts water molecules, which then bind to other water molecules. This creates a slight plumping of the tissues and smooths out the skin.
Juvederm Vollure®, with its special combination of acid particles, is a particularly malleable gel that holds in place quite well. It’s better than other Juvederm® products for smoothing out creases above the mouth and near the nose. The ideal candidate will be a mature adult experiencing moderate wrinkling and sharp nasolabial folds on the lower one-half of the face.
How We Administer the Treatment
We will consult with the client beforehand so that we can determine the severity of the wrinkling and what is causing it. If we decide the Juvederm Vollure® is a suitable treatment method, we will set up a time that is convenient for the client.
The plumping effect will become apparent in the days following the treatment. The skin will appear taut and supple, and deep wrinkles will be far less visible. In most cases, the plumping effect will last for at least one year, if not 18 months, before the gel is flushed from the body. Repeat injections will then be necessary.
Advantages and Benefits
Filler injections don’t treat the skin directly, so they are suitable for all skin types and skin tones. Since no abrasive resurfacing is performed with filler injection treatments, there’s no risk of discolorations. The gel in Juvederm Vollure® is rather thick, but it spreads evenly, so there is no risk of bumpiness or rippling of the skin surface.
