Scars are a natural part of the body’s healing process. But it’s also natural to become preoccupied with scars that are unusually large or noticeable. ProMD Health offers our patients a variety of treatment options for scar revision and management. Our customized scar revision and management treatment program can help minimize the appearance of your scars so that they blend in better with the rest of your skin. Whether it is an old scar from an injury long ago, or a new scar from a recent surgery, our team is committed to helping you look as good on the outside as you feel on the inside!
Our practice is committed to serving the needs of all of our patients. For more information about our scar revision treatments, contact our Annapolis, Baltimore, or Arlington offices today.
Your custom scar revision regimen may include all or some of the following treatments depending on your individual scar:
Microneedling is quickly becoming one of the most sought after methods of scar revision. It tackles scarring by using several microscopic needles to create tiny wounds at the surface of the skin. While these wounds are small enough not to cause additional scarring, they are large enough to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Rejuvenating growth factors are flushed to the scar, covering it with newer, healthier-looking skin. This procedure features absolutely no downtime, and results become visible within a week of treatment.
We offer our clients two laser treatment methods for scar revision: Forever Young BBL and the LightPod Neo.
Our Forever Young BroadBand Light treatment uses targeted laser energy to heat the skin. This heat triggers the process of healing on the surface of the skin, sending rejuvenating growth factors to the site of the scar. It can be used to treat scars on nearly any area of the body.
The LightPod Neo laser is another excellent laser method for correcting scars. While Forever Young BBL stimulates healing on the surface of the skin, the LightPod Neo laser targets the deeper tissues of the skin. Once the laser energy reaches these layers, it heats them up, stimulating healing in much the same way that the Forever Young BBL laser does.
The Silagen® Scar Refinement System uses physician-only medical grade silicone to reduce the appearance of scars. When silicone is applied over a scar, it prevents the rapid accumulation of excess tissue that makes up that scar, while providing a cellular environment that is conducive to scar repair.
These topical treatments come in the form of hand-selected physician grade lotions and creams. These products can help reduce the visibility of a scar and make your skin look naturally healthy and smooth.
