How Long Does Botox Last?

If you have been considering doing something good for you and your looks, ProMD Health in Baltimore, Maryland is here to help. We are the premier destination for Botox in Arlington and the surrounding area, and our team can help you revive your youthful looks in a way that looks totally natural and never manufactured. We specialize in custom treatments that are specifically designed to help you reach your objectives and look your very best.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Generally speaking, these treatments last for three to four months, although some people experience results that span well into the six-month range. Much of this depends on how many treatments you’ve had, what area you have the treatments done on, and how deep your wrinkles are in the first place. Some people find that the results last longer the second time than the first time, as your body builds up more of the treatment.

Your results will also get more pronounced a few days after your treatment, with most people seeing the maximum benefit about three days after they have the treatment done.

What Is This Treatment?

Essentially, this treatment is an injectable neurotoxin that is FDA approved to target wrinkles on the face and also has a whole additional host of benefits that we are just now discovering. Most people have the treatment around their brows, mouth, or near the corners of their eyes. As these are the first places you will start to see the signs of aging, Botox is effective in turning back the clock and giving you a more youthful appearance.

Also known as Onobotulinumtoxin A, this treatment has been around since the late 1980s and is safe, effective, and widely used to both prevent and diminish the look of wrinkles.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Anyone can have this treatment done, but it’s helpful if you are relatively active and physically healthy. If you have any health or familial history of neurological conditions, please consult your primary physician before embarking on this treatment plan. It’s also inadvisable for pregnant or nursing women to get this treatment.

Ideal Age

One of the most fascinating facets of this treatment is that you can use it preemptively to guard against future wrinkles, so some people opt to get it done in their early 20s. Since everyone’s skin is different, and everyone ages differently, there is no specific age where you should consider getting these treatments. The best rule is to start considering a treatment plan when you first notice some wrinkles appearing, or if you’re concerned about an area of your face that is highly expressive.

Alternative Treatments

We offer alternatives to Botox at our practice, including Dysport; a similar treatment. You can opt to get the two together if you choose. Dysport is a similar injectable substance that will stop wrinkles in their tracks and prevent you from getting new ones.

Since the two treatments are very similar, the one that you choose will be up to you. We will guide you through all of the pros and cons of each, and give you a personalized plan that will yield the most effective results for you.

Safe and Effective

This treatment is exceptionally safe, and will not make your face look frozen, or immobilize you in any way. It simply works to counteract the effects of natural wrinkles, making your skin appear a lot smoother and younger. It’s fully FDA approved and very easy to administer. There are virtually no side effects or recovery time, and the results last for several months. There’s a good reason why this treatment is so popular.

Can This Treatment Prevent Wrinkles?

This treatment can actually prevent wrinkles in addition to reversing the effects of them. There are a few common facial expressions that we make over and over again, so these areas can be treated prior to deep wrinkles forming.

If you’re interested in a preventative regimen to stave off wrinkles, talk to our team. We will advise you as to what the best course of action is, and help you come up with a comprehensive plan to stop aging before it starts.

How Can You Make This Treatment Last Longer?

You can expect the results of your treatment to last for a few months, but if you want to really make the most out of your Botox, do your due diligence ahead of time. Make sure that the team you’re going to knows what they are doing. Our team has years of experience administering these types of treatments and fully understands what needs to be done in order to make them maximally successful.

Also, right after you have had your treatment, it’s best to move around the injection site to stimulate the muscles. This will allow the treatment to really work its way into your body. When you move around your face, take care to only use your facial muscles, and avoid rubbing or touching the skin around the injection site.

Patients have inadvertently relocated the treatment or caused damage by massaging too vigorously. Additionally, you should avoid too much sun exposure right after your treatment. If you must go out in the sun, make sure that you wear an ample amount of SPF to shield yourself from harmful rays.

Surprising Benefits

In addition to the myriad of beautifying benefits of this treatment, there are several additional ones that might not immediately come to mind. Botox has plenty of upsides, and we are finding out new applications for it every day. There are many other speculated benefits and uses for this treatment, but we’ve opted to list only those that have been sanctioned by the FDA.

Anyone Can Get It

There are plenty of treatments that sadly don’t work for everyone, but this treatment can be used on every type of skin. No matter how old or young you are, or what your ethnicity is, you can get this treatment and expect results. Since it’s very minimally invasive, and growing less expensive by the day, this treatment is accessible for everyone, and people love the universality of it.

Although anyone can get this treatment and expect results, individuals do vary so make sure that you talk to our team before embarking on any type of treatment plan. We will be happy to help set expectations and ensure that you will have a successful and rewarding experience.

It Can Tame Underarm Sweat

Excessive sweating can be embarrassing and sometimes be a health concern. Since sweating is an intensely personal experience, it can be tough to talk about problems related to it. Fortunately, the FDA discovered that this treatment does more than just smooth out the lines in your face; it can also help you to sweat less.

In 2004, this treatment was cleared to be administered to people who excessively sweat, and it’s had great success. The neurotoxin that halts your skin from producing any additional wrinkles, and tames existing ones, also works for underarm glands. The treatment can freeze up the glands, prompting them to produce less sweat and give you a lot more comfort in the long run.

It’s Quick, Easy, and Painless

Unlike other treatments that occasionally require surgical intervention, this treatment is exceptionally quick, easy, and painless. In fact, you can get it done in less than an hour and you don’t need to schedule any recovery time. It’s also virtually painless, with most people feeling little or no discomfort. You can get this treatment done on your lunch break and head right back to work. It’s that easy.

Our team can administer a topical numbing agent if you’d like us to, which will fully dull the sensation of the treatment. Overall, most people find the entire process to be relatively pleasant. The same goes for other treatment plans that we offer, like Dysport. You can fully expect that these types of treatments will not cause you to miss work or halt your life in any significant fashion. It’s part of the reason why they continue to be so popular.

It Can Help Migraines

Migraine sufferers often benefit from Botox because the same neurotoxin that freezes wrinkles also works to quell overactive nerves that cause debilitating migraines. Migraines were one of the first medical diagnoses where this treatment was tested and found to be largely effective.

Although all migraines are different, there is some compelling evidence that people do experience some relief from this treatment. Migraine shots are a bit different than cosmetic ones, often using less of the treatment and not targeting facial wrinkles.

There are cases where you can address both migraines and wrinkles all in one go. That’s why it’s important to talk to us for a consultation. We will work to make sure that your treatment plan is as closely aligned with your needs as possible.

It May Help Bladder Issues

Another FDA sanctioned and approved use for Botox is for overactive bladders. As with excessive sweating, overactive bladders can cause people to experience a certain amount of shame, and even interrupt their lives because they need to be in close proximity to a bathroom at all times.

Fortunately, this treatment can help stop overactive bladders and minimize embarrassing accidents. Many people have reported that their accidents cut in half after they started getting regular treatments.

Talk to your doctor before taking this treatment for any kind of medicinal reasons. There are many other applications that it has been tested for, but not necessarily approved for. Since everyone is different, it’s important to consult your doctor. The good news is that this treatment seems to be able to work on so many different areas of the body, meaning that you could have fringe benefits from your beautification treatment.
