Does Botox Work on Crow’s Feet?

If you’re looking for a non-surgical remedy for facial lines and wrinkles, you may have stumbled across Botox. An increasingly popular non-invasive treatment that is capable of winding back the clock, Botox is an appealing option for many. If you’ve started to notice traces of lines around your mouth or crow’s feet when you smile, here’s everything you need to know about treating wrinkles with Botox.

What Exactly is Botox?

Botox is an injectable liquid, which is used to target areas of the skin that are prone to displaying the signs of aging. Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which can be injected into the skin to reduce the visibility of facial lines and wrinkles. Botox is suitable for men and women, and typically, it’s ideally suited to people aged between 25 and 65 years old. Botox can be used to soften lines that have only just appeared, as well as to tackle deeper, more pronounced wrinkles. As well as softening lines, Botox can also provide a natural-looking lift to the skin to create a more youthful aesthetic.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox blocks nerve signals from the brain to the muscles, limiting contraction in the facial muscles. When the muscles stop contracting, they relax, and this causes wrinkles to soften. Botox is injected into specific sites within the skin, and it is most commonly used to target problem areas, including the forehead, crow’s feet, and the skin underneath the eyes, the area between the nose and mouth, and lines around the mouth.

What Are Crow’s Feet & Why Do I Have Them?

Crow’s feet are wrinkles that appear around the eyes. Most commonly, these are the first visible signs of aging, and they tend to become more pronounced when you smile or squint. Crow’s feet radiate from the corners of the eyes, and they are so-called because they resemble the claws of a bird. Because you use the muscles that surround the eyes on a regular basis, and the skin here is very fragile and delicate, even young people can develop crow’s feet. As the skin is so thin here, it loses collagen faster than other parts of the face.

While crow’s feet can be a sign that you’ve laughed and smiled a lot in your lifetime, this may not provide a great deal of comfort when you look in the mirror, and all you can see is wrinkles stretching from your eyes up towards your temples. If your crow’s feet are getting you down, there is a solution, so don’t panic. Botox can be used to combat visible wrinkles, including crow’s feet and laughter and frown lines.

Does Botox Work For Crow’s Feet?

Yes! Botox does work botox for crow’s feet, and it can make a dramatic impact even when you have deep lines. Botox reduces the visibility of crow’s feet by relaxing the muscles that surround the corners of the eyes. After you have Botox, you should notice that the skin underneath and around your eyes looks smoother, and the difference should be particularly distinctive when you smile.

What Happens When You Have Botox?

Botox treatment is very quick and straightforward, and there’s no reason to be anxious or worried. Before you have treatment, you’ll have a consultation to make sure that you are a suitable candidate for a Botox crows feet treatment, and your practitioner will also talk to you about which areas you’d like to target. If you have crow’s feet, for example, the skin around the corner of the eyes will be injected. You can choose to treat a single area or multiple areas depending on the condition of your skin and the depth and spread of wrinkles.

When you’re ready to have treatment, a very fine needle will be used to inject a carefully-controlled stream of Botox. The procedure will be repeated until all the areas you wished to address have been covered. Tiny quantities are used to create a natural look. Botox treatment usually lasts around 15-30 minutes.

After treatment, your skin may be slightly flushed, and the area surrounding the entry point may be a little swollen. If you have mild discomfort or the skin is inflamed, we recommend taking over the counter pain relief and applying ice to the area. Make sure your ice pack is wrapped in a cloth to prevent direct contact with the skin. Any side-effects should be minor and they should subside within 48 hours.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect From Botox Treatment for Crow’s Feet?

Botox treatment is a hugely effective solution for facial wrinkles, and it can make a dramatic difference to the appearance of crow’s feet. You should start to spot the difference after around 3 days, and after 2 weeks, the full effects should be visible. When you smile, you should see that the wrinkles are a lot less prominent.

Botox treatment is not a permanent solution, and the results last around 4-6 months. Once the effects start to fade, it is possible to undergo repeat treatment.

Is Botox Treatment Safe?

If you’re thinking about having Botox for crow’s feet, you might have questions about the safety of Botox. Botox has been used for over 100 years, and in the last decade or so, it has become an incredibly popular anti-aging therapy. Botox is an approved treatment, and when administered by trained, experienced professionals, there is a very low risk of side-effects and complications. Botox is suitable for a wide range of people, but there are restrictions that should be applied. Botox is geared towards healthy men and women aged between 18 and 65. It is not suitable for people with some underlying health conditions, including those with neurological and muscular diseases. If you’re pregnant, or you’ve had an allergic reaction to Botox in the past, this treatment is also not suitable.

Does Botox Treatment Hurt?

Many people assume that Botox is painful as soon as they hear the word ‘needle.’ The truth is that the vast majority of people don’t experience any pain when they have Botox treatment at ProMd Health. If you’re nervous about having treatment, or you have a fear of needles, we can use a mild topical anesthetic to numb the skin beforehand. After treatment, the skin may be slightly red and inflamed, but you should feel comfortable, and you should be able to get straight back to work or whatever the rest of the day entails.

What Are The Benefits of Botox For Crow’s Feet?

Crow’s feet are often the first visible sign of aging, and most of us feel a little disappointed and anxious when we first spot those lines appearing. Crow’s feet tend to develop before other facial lines due to the delicacy of the skin around the eyes and the frequency with which we use the muscles that are located in this area. When you squint, smile, or laugh, it’s not just your mouth and your forehead that move. It’s also your eyes. Once crow’s feet become visible, they become more pronounced with time, and they can make you look and feel older even if the rest of your face is line-free.

Botox provides a host of benefits for those looking for an effective way to deal with wrinkles, including:

  • Targeted treatment: Botox is a precision technique, which can target specific areas of the skin that are prone to lines and wrinkles. If you have crow’s feet, but the rest of your face is smooth and youthful, you can address this issue with Botox treatment.
  • Non-surgical procedure: many people are apprehensive about having a surgical procedure due to the risks that invasive procedures carry. Botox is an attractive alternative to surgery because it delivers results without risks and it doesn’t require recovery time.
  • Simple, stress-free treatment process: Botox treatment usually takes just 15-30 minutes, and the procedure is very simple. Your practitioner will use an ultra-fine needle to inject a small amount of Botox into the areas of the skin you wish to address, and once treatment is complete, you can head back to work without having to worry about needing downtime or taking a day off.
  • Temporary results: some people are nervous about having cosmetic treatment because they don’t want to commit to long-term results that may not match their expectations. With Botox, the results last 4-6 months, so if for any reason, you’re not thrilled with your new look, you have peace of mind that in a few months’ time, the effects will fade.
  • Painless procedure: we offer mild anesthetic and we use a very fine needle to minimize pain and ensure you feel comfortable throughout the procedure.
  • Natural-looking results: at ProMD Health, we specialize in creating natural-looking results. We don’t want you to feel like you look fake or completely different, or that you have no movement in your face to show emotions and expressions.
